Stormy Night

The moon it don’t get blown around, In a wild wind when the sun goes down
But you can’t stand still when you come around, You say you stand on solid ground
As fever takes you sickness grows, The chokehold swallow down it goes
Past memories with strings attached, To the egg from which the swallow hatched

And it fills your body with retribution
Stormy night
Waiting for the second light

You and I we’re not alone, They’re watching from the telephone
The little secrets that we know, The furrowed brow the heart that grows
And I look at maps late at night, There’s a quality to the light
Look closely then I turn the page, Ten thousand bodies in a lake

And they’re sinking slowly, rotting falling
To the bottom
Silently

Everybody knows where the story goes
Everybody knows where the cancer grows

Well the devil met me on the beach, And he whispered something in my ear
He crawled back down to the slimy deep, And it festered in me for a year
The thing that I don’t understand, With the laws and all the slight of hand
We shake our hands on shifting sands, Invest yourself in the land

And it fills your body with retribution
Stormy night
Waiting for the second light

Everybody knows where the story goes
Everybody knows where the cancer grows
